Care before treatment.
Don't sun-bathe or expose the areas you wish to depilate to UV sun-lamps for at least 6 or 8 weeks before beginning treatment or between regular sessions (1 to 3 months). Cover the body areas (with clothes) and use sun-block (minimum factor 30) for underarms and face. Re-apply the sun-block every 2 hours if you're outdoors. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun even though you're using protection.
Don't pluck out the hairs you wish to have depilated for 3 to 4 weeks prior to the start of the treatment. If you wish to remove them, do so using a razor or depilatory cream but only up to the day before treatment starts. The hair on the areas you wish to remove doesn't have to be long, in fact the contrary is better, just the tips should be appearing through the skin. When the hair is very thin, it's best to remove it (by shaving or depilatory cream) 10 days before so that,on the day of the session, it's clearly visible. The day of the session the skin has to be clean and not have any make-up, cream or deodorant.
On application, the laser produces a slight "prickling" sensation. An anaesthetic cream is available for the majority of body areas but most people find they don't need it. We will, however, explain how it's applied should you wish to use it.
It's important to inform us of any illness you may have or medication you're taking or have taken 3 months prior to the start of a session. We also need to be informed if you're pregnant or think you might be.
Care after treatment.
After a session the skin reddens with small spots (occasionally with a slight infection) and feels hot. The sensation usually lasts a few hours but can go on for 2 or 3 days. This shouldn't stop you from going about your daily business. We provide you with a post-laser cooling gel made with soothing herbs which you can apply at home as many times as you wish. You can apply make-up immediately after a facial session.
Don't be alarmed if a crescent (or circular) shaped mark appears on the skin, these are temporary and will disappear by themselves. Should this occur or if you feel excessive irritation, please inform us so that we can advise you on what to do.
A few days after the session, you will find that small pieces of hair remain in the skin; these fall out by themselves after 15 days. After this you will enjoy a period of 1 to 2 months with no hair growth. Once the hair starts to grow back, it'll be time for another session. If you don't want another session and wish to remove the new hairs, do so by using a razor or depilatory cream.
If you stop having Laser Depilation sessions for a long period of time (over 4 months), you may remove hair by plucking but only up to a month before starting new sessions. In this case, you may expose yourself to sunlight 7 days after the last session (if the skin has healed) but cease 6 to 8 weeks before starting a new session.
If you have any doubts, please don't hesitate to call us.
